| Mental stimulation, encourage concentration, maintain social skills. |
| Preparation: |
| Buy a junior crossword magazine or book, the small ones with 11 x 11 places. I usually reproduce the puzzle on a white board but you can also enlarge copies of it and give one to each resident. |
| Instructions: |
| Encourage participants to think of the clues, give them the first letter of the clue or elaborate of the usefulness of the clues. |
| Object: |
| Mental stimulation, social interaction, promotion of self worth. |
| Preparation: |
| A white board or large piece of paper / cardboard will be required |
| Instructions: |
- Ask residents to think of a word for the game. It can be any word as long as it is not too small.
- Write the word in a white board and tell residents to form other words using only the letters of the word on the white board.
This is a fun game and once on of my clients chose the word 'pedestrian' and we made an amazing 122 words with that little word. We had staff and management joining us and we played for well over an hour. For days we had staff coming up with extra words. |

| Preparation: |
- Prepare the room with a large sign in cardboard titled "The Price Is Right". (This could be made by the residents the day before in a craft session).
- Borrow some grocery items from the kitchen such as: can of bean, matches, and small packet of coffee, vegemite, eggs, and any other items.
- Have suitable small prizes ready

| Instructions: |
- Place borrowed items on a table in the middle of the room with residents in a large circle around it.
- Ask residents to guess the price of the groceries, one by one. Take the opportunity to engage them in reminiscing about the prices of groceries in the past.
- Give prizes to those that came closest to the right price.
