One of the best ways to promote social contact for new clients in a residential setting is by matching them with people of similar interests in a small group gathering of 3 to 4 people.

Recreation staff should initiate the conversation by introducing them and observing if conversation starts. Assistance should be given by introducing a theme e.g. recent news, weather, music, pets.
